145poem

March 24, 2011

I can’t walk and concentrate
with this city noise so I’ll just say it
like I think it without acting it out.
I won’t reach to swipe your hair
with a conductor’s hurried arc that’d waft
a leave-in conditioner scent in my direction
as I watch you walk the sidewalk crowds
I wish would go silent so I could waft
and watch and concentrate without you
catching the convergence in my eyes—
This incredible urge to smell you
is animal in the most domesticated way
since at Banca 43 ten minutes ago
we just met for an innocent espresso.

LOCATION: Porto Alegre, Brazil – Meeting Mariana for a coffee in the downtown Mercado Publico.
